After watching War Photographer, I believe that most surprising thing about the life of a photojournalist is that the there isn't really any luck in getting the best photograph. To get the best photograph you just have to simply be in the moment and not be afraid to get close in order to have a chance at photographs that are too good to be true. James Nachtwey's photos are great and they are all different - it's not just the same type of angle or type of photo - it seems like he puts thought into every image. I am an optimist, like Nachtwey, and believe a photographer's role is to bring attention to something otherwise unnoticed. The best example of this is in war and famine reporting where people are unaware of the tragedies that are occurring. I am not sure how Nachtwey does his job sometimes, I don't think I could focus in all the situations I saw in the documentary let alone take award winning photos.
